CHURCH OF THE CRUCIFIX

Notable for its beautiful Romanesque portal and rich ornamentation. Its original construction dedicated to “Santa María de los huertos” is attributed to the Order of the Temple, later passing into the hands of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. It consists of two naves, one Romanesque and the other Gothic.
Inside, a large Gothic carving of the Crucified in the form of a “Y” stands out. Legend has it that some German pilgrims, returning from Santiago, donated the carving they carried to the church in gratitude for the treatment received at the local pilgrim's hospital.
